Visit the viewing platform at the Friesenbrücke

To meet the growing interest in the new bridge, Deutsche Bahn has built a viewing platform on the embankment on the Westoverledingen side. The viewing platform allows visitors and local residents to view the construction work safely. The viewing platform is open to the public 24 hours a day.

Viewing platform

Much of the construction work is taking place on the Westoverledingen side. Deutsche Bahn has deliberately chosen the location of the viewing platform so that the extensive work in the area of the river and the foreshore of the embankment and on the construction site can be viewed at the same time. People with children can also safely observe construction progress and still be close to the action.

How to get there

  1. Access from the south (Papenburg - Leer): The viewing platform can be reached from Mitling-Mark via the dyke defence path. The new viewing platform is located at the end of the signposted cul-de-sac.

  2. Access from the north (Leer - Papenburg): Access to Fährhausstraße from K 22 and the passage from Müggenborgstraße at the level of the construction site is strictly prohibited for all vehicles from outside the construction site and for pedestrians and cyclists. Signposted diversions lead from the Deichverteidigungsweg to the road Zum Schöpfwerk and then to the K 22 (Coldemüntje/Hilkenborger Straße/Marker Straße). Pedestrians and cyclists following this diversion can use the branch path to the Deichverteidigungsweg at Marker Straße to get to the new viewing platform from there.
