The new bridge replaces the previous one, which was badly damaged in 2015 after a collision with a ship. With its unique lifting and turning mechanism, the Friesenbrücke is the largest bridge of its type in Europe. In a separate path, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the bridge over the Ems in addition to train traffic.
The successful closure of the bridge on 7 April marks a positive step towards its full commissioning. The Wunderline is expected to cross the Friesenbrücke for the first time by the end of 2025.
