Westerstede-Ocholt station modernisation started

In March 2024, Deutsche Bahn (DB) started the modernisation of Westerstede-Ocholt station, part of the Wunderline route. DB, together with the state of Lower Saxony and Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen (LNVG), is investing around nine million euros in the project. In the future, travellers will be able to enjoy a modern and, above all, barrier-free station.

The work includes the new construction of platforms 2 and 3/4. The platforms will have a height of 76 centimetres, equal to the train boarding height. The passenger tunnel will also be renewed and equipped with lifts. With the dismantling of track 1, the buses and car park will soon be directly accessible from the train. Work is also underway on weather canopies, energy-saving lighting and route guidance for the blind and visually impaired. The work should be completed by early 2025.

Olaf Lies (Minister for Transport, Construction and Digitalisation of the State of Lower Saxony) stresses, "Our goal is to move the mobility transition forward in a meaningful way and, above all, to put people's needs first."
